LEED for Homes Advocate

2 08 2007

Some exciting news for us:  This week I was selected to be the LEED for Homes Advocate for the US Green Building Council’s NY Chapter. I will travel to Washington, DC later this month to meet with the Advocates from chapters across the nation.

In addition to support, training and outreach, I hope to convey that LEED for Homes does not yet apply easily to NYC buildings and that there should be points that apply specifically to Co-op and condo buildings in order to encourage the greening of a large percentage of our existing housing supply.

I also plan to work with the local NY chapter of the USGBC to encourage additional governmental incentives for Co-ops and Condo Boards. If more buildings instituted sustainable building practices, it would make it much easier for individual apartment owners to make their homes more sustainable and neighbors could team up to improve their environment.
