A second location of Boing Boing, a store for pregnant women and nursing mothers, called just “boing!”, opened at 461 7th Avenue in Park Slope at 16th Street. I walk past the store every day on my way from the subway to pick up my son at pre-school and I noticed that someone did something very clever with the existing awning so I stopped in to say hello.
The sign on the awning used to say “Fashion Cafe” then the store’s owner, Karen Paperno Miller rearranged the tape letters to spell out “hi” on the face of the awning and “o, hi boing!” on the flap. Karen gives full credit to her 12-year-old daughter for the idea and for help with the execution of the work. It looks great, the aesthetic is perfect for the shop and it’s a terrific example of creative re-use of existing materials.
…and yes, that little hooded figure in front of the store is my almost-4-year old son.
